Wepster Hazelnut
$32.00
Wepster is another excellent hazelnut cultivar developed by Oregon State University. A favorite for the baking and chocolate industries, it produces consistently high yields of flavorful medium-sized nuts that ripen early (late summer to early fall). This trees natural growth habit requires little pruning making it easy to grow with a mature height of 10-12 feet.
Wepster is fully resistant to Eastern Filbert Blight and cold-hardy to USDA Zone 5. Wepster blooms early making it a good partner for other early-blooming cultivars such as McDonald, Yamhill and PollyO, all of which can act as pollinizers for each other.
The 1-year and 2-year tie-off propagated trees we sell are of good size and caliper, most are 3 to 5 feet long, 3/8″ to 1/2″ caliper and have strong roots. These trees were propagated by tie-off layering of suckers. Due to their length, we will cut them back to about 3 to 4 feet when shipped, which will not impact their ability to quickly grow to a healthy nut-bearing tree. If you choose local pickup they will not be trimmed.
