Tsukuba Chestnut
$10.00 – $30.00
(Castanea crenata) This Japanese easy-peel chestnut is a mid season (October) ripening hardy upright tree growing to 30 feet with low incidence of doubling. Drought tolerant, it prefers well drained to dry soils but tolerates poor soils and does well in sandy, loamy or heavy clay soils so long as it doesn’t become water-logged.
Hardy to zone 4, this chestnut does well in neutral to slightly acid soils and can tolerate high acid soils. It does well in woodlands with partial shade or full sun, and is a excellent edge-of-forest understory tree.
