Holodiscus discolor. Also called Cream bush. One of our native garden favorites. This is an excellent showy multi-stemmed arching shrub which can grow to 20 feet tall and wide under ideal conditions or be kept pruned to fit in a smaller space. This pollinator-friendly hummingbird and butterfly attracting PNW native makes an excellent ornamental focal point in your garden. This is especially true in summer when it is covered in cascading plumed clusters of tiny creamy-white fragrant flowers. Oceanspray holds its bloom a long time, from April through August.
It is quite hardy, tolerating dry summers and wet winters, and can also handle heavy clay soils. It is an excellent reclaimer of open or disturbed land.
