Ribes x ‘Waldo’ These prolific berry producing bushes are strong and robust growers producing large long lasting crops of juicy nutrient dense delicious berries. Disease resistant and hardy to USDA zone 3, the bushes reach 3 to 6 feet in height and 3 to 5 feet wide at maturity. Berry production can begin in the first year after planting. Gooseberries bloom in April/May and produce ripe fruit in July/August. To maintain strong berry production, old canes should be removed at 4 years of age.
The Waldo gooseberry was the result of hybridizations from Dr. George Waldo. It grows vigorously and produces lots of delicious sweet purple berries. Very hardy and tolerant of all kinds of soil conditions. It makes up for its prickly branches by its impressive productivity and growth. The more we work with this variety the more we love it.
USDA regulations prohibit shipping of Ribes species to the following states: DE, MA, ME, MI, NC, NH, NJ, OH, RI, VA, and WV.
