Gillet Chestnut
$30.00
(Castanea sativa x crenata) Gillet produces very large nuts (10-12/lb) that taste good and store well. The nuts fall free from their burs. The tree is very vigorous and cold hardy, but has only limited blight resistant. Gillet is easy to graft.
According to James Nave, Gillet is probably a seedling of Nevada. It was planted by Bob Bergantz in the Sierra Nevada foothills and named after Felix Gillet, a California nurseryman from France who imported hundreds of fruit and nut and varieties from more than 30 nations in the 19th century.
