Bisalta #3 Chestnut
$10.00 – $30.00
(Castanea sativa x crenata) Bisalta #3 is a sativa crenata cross (European/Japanese) that originates from Italy. It is a fast growing and medium height chestnut tree that blooms and ripens in mid-season (neither early nor late, which can aid in avoiding frost damage to blossoms and early frost on nut crops.
Bisalta #3 is a very productive and hardy tree with excellent consistent yields and is a good pollinator as well.
In warmer climates (Central California) it may over produce so that you get as many as 6 nuts per burr; but this is not a problem in cooler climates where the over productive tendency leads to 2 to 3 nuts per over-sized burr for good sized and highly flavorful nut production. It is said that the Bisalta #3 will out produce Colossal in cooler growing environments.
This tree is hardy to -15°F.
